Comeback Medvedev Claims First Trophy in 882 Days
Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces
A comeback the Russian player secured his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.
The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This marks his initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from March of that year.
The win also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.
His defensive strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.
But the player has made changes in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an better service.
The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.
He rescued 4 early opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
